Salem - Rose Marie (Simone) Smith of Salem, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, with her family by her side.She was born Oct. 23, 1922. She was employed by Gallo Wines of West Haven for many years. She is originally from Westville, then West Haven and Orange before moving to Salem to be close to her daughter and son. She and her husband, Russell, would have been married 70 years in Jan. 2014. They traveled extensively during their retirement years with many close friends, both old and new.She was a dedicated wife, devoted mother and loving homemaker who loved her Italian heritage and being with her sisters, brothers and family. She crocheted constantly and gave away as gifts dozens of her beautiful afghans to both family and friends.She is survived by her daughter, Diane Robillard and her husband, Paul, of Salem; her son, Russell K. Smith and his wife, Melissa, of Salem; sisters, Annette Pantera and Mary Civitello; grandchildren, Brian, Mathew and Daniel Robillard and Stephanie Smith DeBiasi; and great grandchildren, Addison, Austyn, Nathan, Jacob, Hallie, Ethan and Ruby Robillard and Scott DeBiasi. She was predeceased by her husband, Russell P. Smith: father, Giacomo Simone; mother, Paola Simone; brothers, Vito, Solly and Leo Simone; sister, Cosimina Simone; and grandson, Marc Robillard.Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service, which will be observed 11:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at Beaverdale Memorial Park, 90 Pine Rock Ave., New Haven.
