JOHNSON, ROBERT JAMES "BOB" 85, a wonderful father and true friend- died Thursday, November 3, 2011. He was born January 10, 1926 in Birmingham and educated at North Birmingham School and Phillips H.S. While a teen, he served In the Army Air Corps in Europe in WWII. He attended the University of Alabama where he was a KA and the University of Louisville, KY. Bob was married to his one true love, Valeria Joyce Carroll, for 57 years before her passing in 2005. He briefly operated a Sundry Store in East Lake across the street from Howard College, then worked in sales for the Quaker Oats Co. for over 30 years. He was active in Mount Vernon UMC and Canterbury UMC where he was a member of the John Wesley SSC. Since 1977, he has been a dedicated member of the Gideons International. His sweet spirit will be sorely missed by his surviving daughter Carroll and son Jay (Elaine), nephews, other family members and many, many friends. The Memorial service will be held on Monday, November 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Sanctuary of Canterbury UMC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Parlor. Memorials can be directed to the Gideon's International or Canterbury UMC or the charity of choice. >
