March 30, 2004 Robert D. Williams, 78, of Mattydale, died Tuesday March 30, 2004 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He has been a native of Syracuse since 1955. Robert, a US Veteran of WWII, served with the US Navy Seabees. After his military service, he was employed byGeneral Motors. After retirement, Robert was inducted into the UAW's Retirement Hall of Fame and recognized for his efforts as treasurer of UAW Retirees' Union. He also was an active member of the American Legion Post #14832, for 32 years. In addition, he was a very loyal lifelong fan of the Syracuse Chiefs. Predeceased by his wife, Irene, he leaves to mourn his passing: a stepdaughter Janis DiFabio, stepson Robert (Charo) Veschusio; brothers Charles (Maude) Williams, Roger (Leanne) Williams and George Elsbree; sisters Luella Brown and Sally Russell. His is also survived by five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, five nephews, two nieces and one stepnephew. Funeral services 10 a.m. Friday April 2, 2004 at the Maurer Funeral Home. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse. Calling hours 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2004 at the funeral home, 300 Second St., Liverpool.
