Phyllis V. Miller, long time Tucumcari, NM, resident, went to join her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 27, 2012.Phyllis was born June 10, 1923, in Sidney, NE, to Fred and Esther Mauser. She graduated from Sidney's Catholic High School. Her soothing voice aided people as an telephone operator and later helped guide other operators as a Supervisor for the telephone company.She had made her home in Tucumcari for over 30 years along with her husband, Klem. They invested into the community they loved by owning several businesses including one of the quaint motels on the iconic Route 66, that being the Palomino Motel. Life did not pass by Phyllis at all. She delved into her love of painting with the art league, and was active in many local clubs including gardening, golf, the Elks Lodge and duplicate bridge, Altrusa and the Red Hat Society. St. Anne's Catholic Church was her home away from home. She loved her diocese and proudly participated as a Eucharistic minister and long standing member of the Altar Rosary Society. Adventure did not scare Phyllis in the least. At age 86, she completed a Mediterranean cruise. The itch for adventure began forty five years earlier when she and her husband would pilot a single engine propeller small airplane together all over the western United States. Their adventures including attempts to get the airplane off the ground with one of the first large bulky color televisions in the back of the plane and landing on rural ranch dirt roads. Co-piloting their plane was a love they shared together for 20 years. Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband, Klem in 1998. She is survived by her loving nephew, Gary R. Evans of Slidell, LA.Rosary will be recited in the St. Anne's Catholic Church on Wednesday evening, April 11, 2012, beginning at 7:30 PM with a Memorial Mass being offered on Thursday morning, April 12, 2012, in the St. Anne's Catholic Church beginning at 10:00 AM with Rev. Father Hyginus Anuta as Celebrant. Following her wishes, cremation has taken place.The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the St. Anne's Catholic Church in loving memory of Phyllis Miller.Funeral arrangements has been entrusted to the Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari, NM, 575-461-3815.
