Phyllis-M. Smith, née en 1946, conjointe de Diana Carminati, fille de Samuel et Blanche, mère de Maceo, Lucian, Bill et Billy, est décédée le 19 juillet 2009. Veuillez consulter son avis de décès ici:
Phyllis Marlene (Grossman) Smith passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 19, 2009, at her home in Rutland, Vt. Phyllis was born January 18, 1946, in New York City, the daughter of Samuel and Blanche Grossman. She grew up in Valley Stream, Long Island, where she enjoyed many family get-togethers, trips with her parents and sister and a life that seemed simple and sweet. She graduated from Valley Stream Central High School in 1963 and attended SUNY Cobleskill where she studied early childhood education. Her skills and abilities as an artist showed early on and became a lifetime passion. Phyllis was unable to complete school as she suffered mental illness that brought her home. During her life, Phyllis developed a spirit of resiliency, deep faith, an incredible sense of humor and a style that could be called nothing but classy. She was beautiful and seemed never to age. Phyllis lived in Burlington, Vt., for 10 years, where her son, Billy, was born, and for the past 10 years, lived in the "girls' house" on Granger Street in Rutland. She loved sitting on the sun porch watching the squirrels, doing her art, talking to other residents, going on outings to the movies, the mall, out to eat and the annual trips to the State Fair and the TBI conference. Phyllis loved life and people and will be deeply missed by so many. Phyllis is survived by her sister, Rosalyn Grossman and Rosalyn's partner, Diana Carminati, of Burlington; her son, Bill Eldred and wife Jennifer of Winooski and his adopted father, Dick Eldred; her niece, Tara Pfeiffer-Norrell and her husband, Kevin, and sons, Lucian and Maceo, of Burlington; her cousins, Lennie and Karen Fox of Charlotte, North Carolina; as well as many other cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Blanche Grossman. Phyllis also leaves her deeply loved caregivers, Kevin and Ann Burke of Wallingford, Vt., Diane Pelkey and Kelley Lapoint. She will be especially missed by Barbara Barron-Rolfe whom Phyllis loved deeply. Phyllis' family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers at Granger Street, to Lorraine Wargo for her many acts of loving kindness and to Erin Weaver and Al Urpsis for their years of oversight for the lifesaving Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Waiver program. A memorial service for Phyllis will be held at Ohavi Zedek Synagogue, 188 North Prospect St., Burlington, Vt., on Wednesday, July 22, at 11 a.m., officiated by Rabbi Joshua Chasan and followed by burial in Hebrew Holy Society Cemetery on Patchen Road. The family will be sitting Shiva and will be accepting guests at their home on 14 Scarff Avenue in Burlington on Wednesday from 6–8 p.m., and Thursday and Sunday from 2–4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ohavi Zedek Synagogue, the Brain Injury Association of Vermont or the Humane Society. Arrangements are by Boucher & Pritchard Funeral Home.View the guest book at www.rutlandherald.com/ obits.
