BROWN, Phyllis Elizabeth October 2, 1926 February 7, 2010 Born: Dover, England. Daughter of: Magnhild Alvilde Marthinsen (Vestre Baerum, Norway) and Frederick William Care (Folkstone, England). Pre-deceased by: husband Archibald and son Graham; brother's Roy Care and Raymond Chambers and sister Alvie Care (Hewson). Survived by: son, Iain (Linda), daughter-in-law, Shelley; grandchildren: Barbara (Nick), Sean, Scott, Colin (Cindy), Michael (Lorree); great-grandchildren: Kyle, Jordan, Faith, Alexandra, Graham, Lily, Anderson; and nieces and nephews. Mother was moved from Folkstone, England during WWII to Wales, residing with a host family and during that time was a high-diving champion. After the war she met her sweetheart Scotsman, Pipe Major Archibald Brown (Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders) and was married November 9, 1946 at (Metropolitan Bureau of Paddington). Mother worked for Lady Violet Bonham-Carter. Dad became a Bobbie" and they resided with Iain and Graham in the St. John's Wood Police Station in London. Dad saw an opportunity enlisting in the Canadian Provost Corps, moving to Edmonton. Mom, Iain and Graham arrived later, travelling on the Home Lines ship SS Atlantic, arriving in Quebec on September 24, 1954. Mom worked for the Alberta Provincial Government. One of her highlights was working for Premier Ernest C. Manning, and his Back to the Bible Hour". Dad was transferred to Camp Borden in 1962 where mother worked for the Medical Corps School, meeting Larry Thomas (Shelley's father) who was also stationed there. There mother cocoached the Camp Borden Wolves hockey team of which Graham and Bruce Cowick were players, going on to win the championship to the chagrin of the male coaches. In 1965, the family was transferred to Victoria where Mom went to work for the Federal Government at Naden, then later the B. C. Provincial Government. Mother was an avid gardner, excellent cook and had a love of learning. She was an exceptional mother, grandmother and friend. and her memory will be cherished in our hearts. The family would like to thank all of her friends and staff at Legion Manor, Saanich Peninsula Hospital and Glengarry Hospital for treating her with respect and dignity, making her final days as comfortable as possible. A celebration of life will be held Monday, February 22, 2010 at 2:00pm, at the Church of the Nazarene, 4277 Quadra Street, Victoria. Online condolences may be offered at www.hwwallacecbc.com 579235
