Peggy Ina Scroggs Mitchell, 62, of 1521 Hillcrest Drive died Monday, June 23, 2003.A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Mitchell was a daughter of the late Carl and Sara Betts Scroggs. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Education and a former teacher at Statham Elementary School. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and was active in the Children Outreach Ministry with Athens Christian Women. Mrs. Mitchell was an active member of St. James United Methodist Church for 33 years. She was a prayer minister for St. James, member of United Methodist Women, and member of Athens Emmaus Community.Survivors include her husband, Bailey W. Mitchell of Watkinsville; daughter, Melissa Bachman of Doraville; son, Bailey F. Mitchell of Cumming; sister, Connie Pitts of Watkinsville; and four grandchildren: Alex, Yulia, and Denis Bachman, and Garrett Mitchell.A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at St. James United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kent Reynolds officiating. Private interment will follow.The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at Bernstein Funeral Home.
