Peggy C. Smith, 55, died April 22, 2013, at Hanover Terrace in Hanover, N.H. She was born Jan. 12, 1958, in Rutland, the daughter of Leon Smith and Dorothy (Sumner) Higgins. She attended Castleton Elementary School and graduated from Stafford Vocational Technical Center in 1976. She enjoyed cats, painting and crocheting. She was employed at Pleasant Manor and Eden Park Nursing Homes. Survivors include four sisters, Joan A. Cutts of Rutland, Linda M. Fetcho of Lake Ariel, Pa., Bonnie Lee Stebbins of Lebanon, N.H., and Debbie J. Mcmurry of Poultney; two brothers, Robert Smith of Granville, N.Y., and Charles Higgins of Castleton; nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 2, 2013, at 10 a.m. in Hillside Cemetery in Castleton. Memorial contributions may be made to Rutland County Humane Society, Stevens Road, Pittsford, VT 05763. Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
