Paul Richard "Dick" Donnell, 74, Columbus, died at 11:25 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Mr. Donnell graduated from Columbus High School in 1953 where he played on the varsity basketball, baseball and football teams. He then entered the U.S. Army and upon returning to Columbus was employed by the Columbus Police Department from 1955 to 1956. He was then employed at Cummins Engine Co. from 1956 until retiring in 1998. He was a member of St. Johns Masonic Lodge 20, Scottish and York Rite and was past master of Jonesville Masonic Lodge 216 and Bartholomew County Shrine Club. Born June 12, 1933, in Bartholomew County, he was a son of Leonard W. "Jack" Donnell and Stella Mae Miller Donnell, both of whom preceded him in death. On June 22, 1957, he married Carol J. Collins, who survives at Columbus. Other survivors include a son, Roy L. (Pam) Donnell, Columbus; a stepson, Joe Bastian, Columbus; and six grandchildren, Kevin Wooton, Ian Keith Wooton, Katie Bastian, Joseph Bastian, Jennie Bastian and Annie Bastian. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Mae Donnell; two brothers, Gene Donnell and the Rev. Lester Havron; and five sisters, Betty Donnell, Faye Hall, Mary Ann Smith, Linda Tibbs and Juanita Branum. Dr. Brian Buterbaugh will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, Columbus. Burial will take place at Garland Brook Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. A Masonic memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
