BELFAST - Paul R. Fleming, 91, of 31 W. Hughes St., passed away Saturday (Dec. 7, 2013), at Absolut of Houghton following a brief illness. Born May 15, 1922, in Kinney, Pa., he was the son of Timothy A. and Ora V.. Clark Fleming. On Nov. 25, 1970 at St. Patrick's Church in Belfast, he married the former Marion B. Baker, who survives.Paul had grown up in Kinney, where he attended school. In 1938, the family moved to Angelica, where Paul helped on the family farm before serving with the U.S. Navy during World War II. In the navy, he served in the Pacific theater aboard the U.S.S. Tyrrell, a cargo ship, where he saw combat. After he returned to civilian life, Paul was a meat cutter for a short time at the Wellsville A&P, and Don Jones Red and White Store in Angelica. Paul went to Barbers School in Buffalo, and began his own business, Paul's Barbershop, in Fillmore. In 1996, he moved his business to Belfast, where he continued Paul's Barbershop, until the present time.He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, antique tractor restoration and visiting with his many friends. Most of all he loved being with his family. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church of Belfast, where he was a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Belfast Lions Club, the VFW of Cuba, post # 2721 and a member of the Birdsall Grange. Surviving in addition to his wife Marion are a brother, James E. (Shirley) Fleming of Allentown; a sister, Mary Weber of Brockport; and several nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by three brothers, Richard Fleming, Edward Fleming and Charles Fleming; two sisters, Helen Brown and Katherine Fleming.Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday (Dec. 9, 2013), at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Belfast. A Rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will begin at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 10, 2013), starting with prayers at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 am at St. Patrick's Church in Belfast. The Rev. Dennis Mancuso, pastor, will be celebrant, and burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Belfast. Memorials may be made to the Belfast Rescue Squad.
