Avis de décès de Paul-Joseph Fedor

FEDOR Paul Joseph Fedor, 89, longtime resident of San Pablo, passed away Friday, July 16, 2010 after a long confinement following a fall at his home. Born in Bigler, PA, on November 25, 1920, to Frank and Frances Fedor, Mr. Fedor grew up on his parents' farm in the rural outskirts of Akron, Ohio. He was attending nearby Kent State University when the Pearl Harbor attack brought the U.S. into World War II, at which time Mr. Fedor enlisted in the U.S. Navy and joined the aviation officers-training program at Kent State. Commissioned an Ensign, Mr. Fedor piloted U.S. Navy blimps on antisubmarine patrol in the U.S. and in the Mediterranean during World War II, then was reactivated as a Navy Reservist during the Korean Conflict, when he was stationed at NAS Glynco in Brunswick, GA. Mr. Fedor attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander before retiring from the Navy at Glynco in 1956. Mr. Fedor built homes on St. Simons and Jekyll Islands and Savannah, GA before returning to Ohio in 1962, where he joined the Federal Housing Administration. Mr. Fedor served the FHA in Cincinnati, OH, Chicago, IL, St. Louis, MO, Indianapolis, IN, and finally Jacksonville before retiring in 1987. Mr. Fedor married Kathleen Freeman Bergh Hanley in May, 1966 in Cincinnati; she survives him, along with his stepchildren, John B. Hanley, Jr., of Columbia, SC, Steven Hanley, of West Hempstead, NY, Kriss H. Duckett, of Jacksonville, and Richard Hanley, of Marietta, GA. Mr. Fedor is also survived by his brother, James Fedor of Myrtle Beach, SC. Mr. Fedor was very active in the Masonic Temple throughout his adult life. He was raised to the rank of Master Mason in the Golden Isles Lodge in Georgia in 1955, was a Shriner in the Masonic Temple of every city in which he lived, attained the rank of officer in Ribault Lodge #272 in Jacksonville Beach in 1990, and received a 55-year attendance award in 2010. Memorial Services for him at the Ribault Lodge are pending. An avid golfer, Mr. Fedor was a familiar figure on courses in Atlantic and Jacksonville Beach and at the Mayport Navy Base. Mr. Fedor shot in the low 90's and had the distinction of both scoring a hole-in-one at the Jacksonville Beach Golf Club course using a 3 iron in a 15 mph head wind and of accidently slaying a bird with a hard-hit drive. Mr. Fedor viewed golf as a great form of exercise; rather than employing a caddy or a golf cart, he carried his own clubs until age 86 when he pulled his own golf bag on a two-wheeler, which accounted for his perennial deep tan and physique of a man a third of his age. Mr. Fedor was a member of the congregation at Christ Episcopal Church in San Pablo. Funeral plans are private. Please visit our online Tribute at www.quinn-shalz.com .
