Patrick T. Shea 1926-2012 SPRINGFIELD - Patrick T. "Paddy" Shea, 86 of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield died Tuesday at Mercy Medical Center. Born in Couminole, Dingle, County Kerry, Ireland, a son of the late Michael and Johanna (Daly) Shea. Patrick immigrated to the United States in 1948 settling in Springfield. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 35 years, retiring in 1987, having worked in the East Springfield, Hungry Hill and Downtown areas of Springfield. Patrick served in the U.S.Army during the Korean War. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and communicant of the former Our Lady of Hope Church. He was a life member of the John Boyle O'Reilly Club and a former member of its Board of Directors for many years,and also participated in the Wednesday Night Pitch League. Patrick and his wife Ellen were honored by the Club as Irish Couple of the Year in 2003. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Gaelic Football, and his grandchildren's activities and accomplishments. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas, Maurice, James, Sean, Joseph and Michael O'Shea, his sisters Ann Moriarty, Sheila O'Shea, Mary Kavanaugh and Kathleen Lynch. Patrick will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him including his wife of 59 years Ellen Bridget (Cullinan) Shea, his son John and his wife Mary of West Springfield, his 2 daughters, Ann Marie (Carroll) Shea and her husband Marcel Lapierre of Chicopee, Mary Ellen Shea and her husband Rick Kapinos of Hampden. He also leaves eight beloved grandchildren, Christopher, Heather, Andrew, Jackson, Jameson, Padraig, Katherine and Timothy. In Ireland he leaves a brother Eamon O'Shea and his wife Ann, and 2 sisters, Nora Hoar and her husband James and Breeda Buckland. He also leaves two sisters-in-law,Elizabeth O'Shea and Theresa O'Shea both of Springfield and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours are Friday, October 5, 2012 from 4-7pm at Sampson's Funeral Home, 710 Liberty St, Springfield. The funeral is Saturday, October 6, 2012 beginning at Sampson's Funeral Home at 9:30am followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11am at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut St Sprigfield. Committal Services with Military Honors are Tuesday at 9am at Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St, Agawam.
