Patrick Joseph Casey, 84, Venice, died April 20, 2006. He was born in Waterford, Nova Scotia, and came to Venice in the 1980s. He was a design engineer for Ford Motor Co., where he helped invent cruise control. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Nova Scotia Technical College and was a gunner in the Royal Canadian Artillery in World War II. Survivors include his wife, Margaret (Timmons); sisters Mary of Halifax and Dr. Joan of New York City; and brothers Dr. Tom of Halifax and James of Ladner, British Columbia. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Venice Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 1230 Tuttle Ave., Sarasota, FL 34239; or to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, 5161 George St., 7th Floor, Halifax, Nova Scotia B3J 1M7.
