HARRIS Patricia McNamee of Raleigh, NC formerly of Lexington, KY died on Monday, August 18, 2014. She was born on July 10, 1929 in Evanston, IL, the daughter of the late Colonel and Mrs. A.A. McNamee. She graduated from Duke University in 1951 with a B.A. degree in History. While at Duke, she was selected as one of the seven most outstanding senior women for the White Duchy Honorary, and for Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. Following graduation, her principal positions of employment included Civil Service appointments at the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, DC and the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida. On September 5, 1953, she married Jesse G. Harris Jr. They moved to Lexington, KY in 1960 to begin their association with the University of Kentucky. Jesse was a professor and former Chairman of the Psychology Department in the College of Arts and Sciences from 1960 until his death in 1988. Pat served as a staff assistant in the Philosophy Department from 1976 to 1986. They were members of Second Presbyterian Church and together served as Forum leaders as well as members of the Chanticleer group. Pat volunteered with the Church's Meals on Wheels ministry as well. She was active in a number of groups including Chapter J of the PEO sisterhood, the University of Kentucky Women's Club, where she was twice President, twice recording secretary, and chair of the social and decorating committee, as well as serving on various other committees. She was a University of Kentucky Fellow, and an active participant in the Jesse G Harris, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund. She is survived by her two daughters and two sons-in-law. Julia Harris Miller and Michael Don Miller of Raleigh, NC, and Cecilia Harris Johnson and Eric George Johnson of Toledo, OH, three grandchildren, Jeffrey Alan Miller and Rachel Miller Hatchell (and husband Chandler) of Raleigh, NC and Linnea Louise Johnson of Toledo, OH. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Gayle Harris Lindsay of Atlanta, GA and numerous nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be conducted at 3pm Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery beside her husband, who achieved the rank of Captain in the US Navy Reserve prior to his death on November 22, 1988.
