Patricia "Pat" E. Smyth, age 79, of Destin, Fla., passed away on Dec. 4, 2014 in the company of her loving husband, after a two year struggle with aggressive breast cancer. Pat was born on Dec. 5, 1934, in Mineola, N.Y. to Frederick and Edna Ehrman. She graduated from Mineola High School and attended Hofstra University where she graduated in 1956 with a BS in Business Administration. She married Jim in 1956. Her love for people and her charitable heart was evident to those around her. She worked for the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind in Smithtown, N.Y., for 16 years, eventually becoming Director of Administrator Services. Pat was active in the American Association of University Women. She loved going on trips, antiquing, and spending summers on Suncook Lake in New Hampshire with her boys.Locally, she was a member of the Destin and Fort Walton Beach Women's Clubs and volunteered at the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Pat enjoyed playing bridge and highly regarded the fellowship and friendships with the other players. She dabbled in painting as well as arts and crafts. Most of all, she loved her family. Pat was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Pat is survived by her loving husband, James A. Smyth of Destin; sons, James F. Smyth (Sue), of Warrenton, Va., and Dr. Andrew T. Smyth (Darlene), of Madison, Miss.; and grandchildren, Hawley Creekmore (William), Laurel Smyth, Natalie Smyth, Kaela Smyth and Julia Smyth. A memorial mass will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 307 Beach Drive, Destin, FL, with celebrant Father Bob Morris.
