<!-- FH = Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian -->PATRICIA BROOKSFLETCHER - Patricia Brooks, 80, passed away September 13, 2011 at her residence.She was the daughter of the late W.W. O'Donovan and Helen Caspari O'Donovan.Pat was born in 1931 in Greensboro, N.C. and after several years lived in Virginia, most of her early life in Bayside, N.Y., on Long Island. She attended Duke University in 1948, graduated from Tuffs University in 1952 and got married in 1953. In 1957, she and her husband Richard became Christians and decided to train to become missionaries. In 1962 they went to Nigeria with their baby girl and two young boys. They served four years in three different places. In 1965 they had another son and returned to the States in 1966. In 1969 she won a Guideposts writing competition and wrote the first of several books. She was a speaker in many Christian conferences in the early 70's. They moved from upstate New York to Western North Carolina in 1977.She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Richard Brooks; one daughter, Elizabeth Cave and her husband, Michael, of Augusta, Ga.; three sons, Charles Brooks and his wife, Renae, of Hendersonville, John Brooks and his wife, Jeanne, of Yorktown, Va. and William Brooks and his wife, Julie, of Vacaville, Calif.; one brother, Bill O'Donovan of Sebring, Fla. as well as thirteen grandchildren.A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, September 16, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church of Weaverville with the Reverend Skip Gillikan officiating.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Pat's memory to the benevolence fund at First Presbyterian Church of Weaverville, P.O.
