TOWLE Patricia Bailey Towle was born on June 2, 1925, in Bangor, Maine, the second daughter of E. Merle Bailey and Elizabeth Lambert Bailey. She attended schools in Bangor, graduating from Bangor High School in 1943. Pat was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, where she sang in the choir. She took voice lessons from Helen Spearin Leonard and sang in choirs all her life, often doing solo work. She was married on August 4, 1943, to the Rev. Walter R. Towle, whom she met on Halloween night on the steps of the Bangor Theological Seminary, where Walter was a student. During the last two years of Walter’s work at Seminary, Pat took courses selected for her by the faculty, and sang with the Seminary choir. Rev. and Mrs. Towle retired to Wesley Heights, the Methodist Retirement Center in Shelton, in 1983. They celebrated 50 years of marriage with a family party at the Curtis House in Woodbury, in August of 1993. Pat was a partner in her husband’s ministry until his death on March 20, 1994. They served 22 churches in their 50-year ministry in Maine, Connecticut (Morris Cove, Greenwich, Winsted, Waterbury, Litchfield, Bantam, Derby and Huntington) and in New York. She than continued with her own ministry to the other residents in Wesley Heights, Shelton, and former parishioners from past churches. As a descendant of John Alden and Captain Myles Standish, she was a member of the Mayflower Society. She passed away at the home of her oldest son, Alfred Towle in Harvard, Mass., after a short illness. Her three sons, Alfred Raymond Towle and his wife, Bonnie, of Harvard, John Bradford Towle of Milford, and Lt. Col. Sir Dr. David Walter Towle and his wife, Janet, of Black River, N.Y., survive Patricia. There are four grandchildren: Jennifer Elizabeth Parrella (Mrs. Scott Robert Parrella), Mark Sterling Towle, Christopher Anderson Towle and Daniel Anderson Towle. The two great-grandchildren are Michael Robert Parrella (6 years) and Matthew Alfred Parrella (6 months). She is also survived by her sister, Gloria Elizabeth Bruce (Mrs. Robert Bruce) of Beverly Hills, Fla.; and her brother, the Rev. Edgar M. Bailey Jr. and his wife, Ruth, of Homossassa, Fla. Memorial services will be held on July 26, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Congregational Church in Harvard, Mass. The Rev. Dr. Gregory Schmidt will be performing the service. Contributions may be made in her name to the Evangelical Congregational Church Music Fund.
