SMITH, PHYLLIS JUNE Age 82, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away on December 29, 2012 after a prolonged illness. She was born in Loogootee, IN and raised in Peoria IL. She attended Bradley U. where she met her husband of 62 years. They moved to Birmingham in 1968 after having lived in Moline IL, Cleveland OH, Warren OH, Indianapolis IN and Charlotte NC. She took a genuine interest in everyone she met and made lasting friendships everywhere she lived. She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas M. and Ruth Dilley Walton. She is survived by her husband, Donald B. Smith; children, Thomas P. Smith, Stephen D. Smith, David W. Smith, Barbara A. Smith and Lisa R. (Robert) Green; grandchildren, Sean Smith, Matthew (Holly) Smith, and Bonny Green; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas (Joanna Walton; sister, Dr. Karen Walton (Rev. Dr. Leonard) Budd. Funeral services will be at St. Mark UMC January 3, 2013 at 11:00am. A private burial was held at Southern Heritage Cemetery. Rev. Steve West officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the African Children's Mission at P.O. Box 26470, Birmingham, AL 35260.
