Patricia Mary Smith died peacefully at the home of her daughter on June 29, 2006 from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Born on March 17, 1919 to Frank and Mary (Kiernan) Strollo, she grew up and lived most of her life in New Rochelle, New York, moving to live with her daughter in 2003. Pat, as she liked to be called, worked in a Connecticut defense plant during WWII, assembling machine gun clips and when work there ended, returned to New Rochelle where she served as a USO volunteer. Employed at various retail stores over the years, Pat was well-liked by those who came to know her cheerful demeanor. Although Alzheimer's slowly destroyed her mind, Pat could still sing along to every song from the 1940's without missing a beat or a smile. Surviving are her only child, Patty Ann Sparano and husband John of Carmel, New York; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jill and John and three great-grandchildren, Emma, Jakob and Matthew. Pat is also survived by two brothers, Frank Strollo of Connecticut, Eugene of New Rochelle and was predeceased by her brother Peter and sister Eleanor Harford. Services will be private. Memorial donations can be made to Putnam County Office of the Aging - Adult Day Care Services. CARGAIN FUNERAL HOMES, INC. 10 Fowler Avenue Carmel (845)225-3672
