O'SULLIVAN-Sarah Casey, age 109 of Danbury, CT, formerly of Newton, CT and Red Hook, Brooklyn, NY, passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2004 at Hancock Hall in Danbury. A resident there for the past 16 years, she received superb and loving care. She was the wife of the late James A. O'Sullivan, Sr. Sarah was born in Red Hook, Brooklyn, NY, June 18, 1894, the daughter of the late William Oliver Casey and Sarah (Johns) Casey. As a young girl, Sarah remembered watching Teddy Roosevelt lead his Rough Riders across the Brooklyn Eastern Parkway. During WWI, she served as a Red Cross volunteer and was active in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Sarah had a great love of music and dancing. In 1970, she moved from Brooklyn to Newton, CT to live with her son Jim, daughter-in-law Eileen and grandsons Jimmy and Kevin. Sarah was a parishioner of St. Mary Church, Bethel, CT and was a member of the Newton Senior Center, singing in their choral club "The Golden Notes." Sarah is survived by her two sons: James A. O'Sullivan, Jr. of Newton, CT and Thomas O'Sullivan of Massapequa Park, NY, 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 7 at St. Mary Church, Bethel, CT, at 10:00am. Burial will be in the LI National Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY. The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, CT, on Thursday evening from 6-9pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Sarah Casey O'Sullvan are requested to be made to Hancock Hall, 31 Staples Street, Danbury, CT, 06810.
