WATERVILLE -- Norma June Williams, 88, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 8, 2012, at her residence in Waterville. She was born in Medford, Mass., June 13, 1923, the daughter of Robert and Thelma (Harris) Sansom. She graduated from Quincy (Mass.) High School in 1941 and worked for the Dunn & Bradstreet Co. in Boston. During World War II, she married Richard Williams Jr. Norma first met Richard in church Sunday school when she was 4 years old. They were married Sept. 16, 1944, at her parents' home. Their brothers and sisters referred to them as "the Love Birds." They remained happily married and dedicated to each other for 65 years, until Richard's passing in 2009. Norma was broken-hearted at losing him.Norma and her family moved to Waterville in 1955. She was a member of the Pleasant Street United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She was active in the church, helping to put on suppers and other functions. She made many life-long friends at the church. She loved being with the ladies of the Pleasant Street United Methodist Church Women's Club. Norma was kind-hearted, thoughtful and generous and was always putting others first. She always had a kind word and a compliment for everyone. She will be sadly missed and forever loved by all who knew her. She had many interests and friends. Norma enjoyed gardening, crafts, birding, knitting, reading and the Red Sox. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her loving, devoted husband, Richard Williams Jr., who died April 25, 2009; her parents; and by her beloved brother, Stanley Sansom.She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Williams of Waterville, and Richard Williams and fiancŽe Melody Weeks and son Devon Weeks of Fairfield; grandchildren Timmy Fortier and husband Ed, Thomas Williams and wife Beth and Bruce Williams and wife Lisa, all of Fairfield, and Ashely Groppe and husband Ben of Malden, Mass.; great-grandchildren Chad, Erica, Robert, Samantha, Kristin, Mya, Alea and Charlotte; and by several nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law Henry Williams and wife Shirley of Weymouth, Mass., and Ken Williams and wife Diane of Bridgewater, Mass.; sisters-in-law Elizabeth Smith of Chatham, Mass., and Bella Williams of Florida.Memorial donations in Norma's memory may be made to Pleasant Street United Methodist Church, 61 Pleasant St., Waterville, ME 04901.Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012, with the Rev. Arlene Tully officiating. Burial will be Pine Grove Cemetery, Grove Street, Waterville.
