Mrs. Nella Marjorie Garbutt (née Smith) February 10, 1918 - July 14, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Jenkens Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre Nella Marjorie (Smith) Garbutt passed away suddenly at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, July 14, 2005 at the age of 87. Nella was born on February 10, 1918. She married Howard Garbutt in 1940, the first wedding to be held in the O’Connor Township Union Church. Nella worked in the munitions plant at Canada Car during the war and home-schooled her two sons in Dog River and Mosher. Nella and Howard returned to Thunder Bay when the boys were ready for high school and she returned to work at Kresge’s. She received a special certificate from the Province for completing six units of the Junior Farm Club as a young lady. Her family was the most important part of her life. Nella is survived by her sons Larry (Gwen) and Stu (Mary); granddaughters Susan (Nick) Temple and Dawn (Phillip) Dumoulin; grandsons Robert Dean, Andrew, Richmond (Kathy) and Rob and Patrick Garbutt; 10 great grandchildren; sisters Patricia (Phil) Sitch and Gail (Leonard) Koivu; brother Roy (Eileen) Smith; sisters-in-law Bernice Smith and Mae Garbutt; brother-in-law Chester Garbutt as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Howard in 1991, parents Orvin and Alice Smith; brothers Boutelle, Wallace, Richard, Edward, Nelson and Albert Smith; brothers-in-law Dave and Alex Garbutt and sisters-in-law Kay Smith, Ann and Madeline Garbutt. Funeral services for Mrs. Garbutt will be held on Monday, July 18, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkens Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, July 17 between 2 and 4 at Jenkens Funeral Home.
