Nancy Joyce St.Onge October 17, 2010 Nancy Joyce St.Onge, 60, passed away on October 17, 2010, after a heroic, six-year battle with breast cancer. She did not lose her battle to cancer; she beat cancer-- cancer never took her spirit, her love for family and friends, her smile or her hopes. Nancy was born in Buffalo, NY, to the late Peter Robert Joyce and M. Virginia Seiler. She graduated from Orchard Park High School and earned a bachelor's degree from SUNY Oswego. She spent her life working to advocate for the public with jobs at Oswego County Opportunities as an educator, trainer and counselor as well as with OCM BOCES, where she was a tobacco policy coordinator. Nancy's passion was volunteering with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), where she was a lead legislative ambassador, and advocating for cancer funding and legislation. She made it her mission to educate family, friends and the public on cancer's effects and prevention. She was honored with many awards for her work and volunteerism, including being the 2008 ACS Advocate of the Year and receiving the Onondaga County Legislative Certificate of Recognition as well as several other recognition awards over the decades. She is survived by her mother, Virginia Joyce; her brother, Peter Joyce; and sister, Dr. Ginger Joyce (Oliver Stanton). Nancy was the proud mother of Brian (Eliza) St.Onge, Mark St.Onge, Ginny St.Onge, Matt (Jen) St.Onge, Andrea (Peter) Litzenberger, Laura St.Onge (Drew Litzenberger) and Chris (Amy) St.Onge. She was an amazing aunt to Ian and Courtney Joyce and Liam and James Stanton. Nancy's pride and joy were her grandchildren, Luke, Kellen, Addyson, Grace, Justin and Nathan St.Onge and Reider, Alex and Jonathan Litzenberger. Nancy was overwhelmed by the caring, thoughtfulness and love shown to her through her illness by her wonderful family, friends and colleagues. Their prayers, cards, calls and visits meant the world to her. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Danielle Walsh, Dr. Anthony Scalzo at HOA of CNY, Dr. Carmen Klass of NGOC and Pastor Paul Herpich for their unprecedented level of support. In lieu of flowers, it is the request of Nancy that donations be made to ACS CAN, Attn: Sherry Tomasky, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211 or online at http://action.acscan.org/goto/nancystonge. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2010, at Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 Rte. 31, Baldwinsville. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2010, at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 8278 Oswego Rd., Liverpool, NY. Maurer Funeral Home, Inc. www.maurerfuneralhome.com
