EAST GREENBUSH After winning the battles of vascular disease and systemic lupus, a year long battle with lung cancer, sent Nancy Lee Walker home to the Lord on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at 12:45 p.m. A brief snow flurry, glistening from the sun was a celebration of her victory. Nancy Lee Smith Walker was born on November 15, 1937 at home in Watervliet to Alma Letts Jordan Smith and Louis Frederick Smith. At age 3, they moved to Eastland Park, Rensselaer. She graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1955, where she was co-majorette of the Twirling team. In the early 60s she settled in Poestenkill until 1976, then moved to South Troy for a brief stay. In 1980, she moved back to her hometown of Rensselaer where she stayed until moving to East Greenbush in 2000. Nancy was a homemaker until 1976. She was past auxiliary president and lifetime member of the Sullivan Jones VFW Post in Poestenkill where she served and worked many dinners. She is a member of the Poestenkill Evangelical Lutheran Church. In 1976, she went to work for the New York State Workers Compensation Board in Menands for 23 years. She is the mother of Lauri (Robert) Mosall of Albany, Sandra (Patrick) Knauf of East Greenbush, Scott Walker (Ann Gray) of Slingerlands and Dean Walker of Rensselaer; Mema and Grama of Tara Walker, Eric Farrell and Matthew and Brianna Knauf; step-grandmother of Amanda and Christopher Mosall; special mema to Victoria Farrell; special friend of Marion Knauf; sister of Louis William Smith of Hudson and Donna L. Poole (John) Swedick of Clifton Park; aunt of William (Tricia) Siddon, Jodi (James) Gauthier, Kimberly Siddon, Joanne (John) McLean, Tammy (John) Gregg, Patti (Steve) Bruno, John Smith and William Smith; cousin of Albert Sonny Berry and Wallace Safarik; and six great-nieces, eight great-nephews, two great-great-nephews. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, Monday evening from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. with a memorial service celebrating her life held at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family strongly suggests contributions be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, 790 Watervliet Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12110 or to the New York Oncology/Hematology Unit, 43 New Scotland Avenue, Mailcode 7, Albany, NY 12208. Special thanks to the nurses and staff of D4E at Albany Medical Center.
