Norwich - Nancy F. Jackson passed away Jan. 8, 2006 at The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich.She was born Feb. 14, 1921, the daughter of Harvey and Leonora Fairbank, of Sudbury, Mass. She graduated from College of William and Mary in 1943 when she joined the Army to serve as a physical therapist in World War II. She achieved the rank of First Lieutenant in the department of medicine. It was there that she met her first husband, Robert E. Hanifin Jr., a decorated veteran in her ward.They had three children, Kathy H. Bond, of North Stonington, Christine H. Russell, of Moyock, N.C., and Nancy Hanifin Crandall, of Rockville, R.I.She remarried in 1968 to George A. Jackson. She worked for 10 years as an occupational therapist at Fairfield Hills Hospital in Newtown, and Norwich State Hospital in Norwich. She spent many years working at the Indian Colonial Center in Old Mystic.Nancy was an avid genealogist and volunteered many hours at the North Stonington Historical Society. She loved bird- watching, gardening, and the sea.She is survived by one sister, Rebecca Fairbank; three daughters, ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.She was predeceased by both husbands, one brother, and one sister.
