->Nancy Holtzman Carter, age 85, passed peacefully in her home. She was born in Glen Ellyn, Ill., and attended Monroe High School in Rochester, N.Y., as well as the University of Colorado at Boulder. She married Richard Leghorn, living in Rochester, Portugal, and then Weston, Massachusetts, where they raised their two children. Nancy worked for many years for the New England Conservatory in Boston as development director and head of the preparatory department. She also worked for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, organizing travel for Friends of the BSO during the symphony's European Tours.After a divorce and subsequent brief marriage to Jack Carter, she retired to Sharon and Dublin, N.H., and then moved to Ashland, Ore., in 1991. There she co-founded and remained an avid member of the Rogue Recyclers bicycle and ski touring group, and volunteered for several local organizations. Nancy will be fondly remembered for her zest for life and devotion to the great outdoors, classical music, and opera.She is survived by children, Lisa Leghorn, of New Mexico, Kenneth Leghorn, of Juneau, Alaska; granddaughter, Yana Leghorn Warner; brother, Arthur Holtzman, of Rochester, N.Y.; nephew, John Holtzman; and nieces, Janet Gates, Ann Beale, and Ellen Zeph.
