LEWIS Nancy Elaine Philgreen Huff Klein Lewis, 73, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2009 at the Dr. Gaston J. Acosta-Rua Center for Caring in Jacksonville, FL. Nancy was born in Kansas City, MO on February 14, 1936 to the late Clarence H. and Martha "Irene" Philgreen. She graduated from Westport High School in 1954 where she was a National Honor Society member. She attended the Kansas City Art Institute and Kansas City Junior College, in Kansas City, MO. Later, she studied at Anne Arundel Community College in Annapolis, MD and received an undergraduate certificate in data processing from American University in Washington, D.C. She was a lifelong Civil servant retiring after 42 years as a Computer Specialist. She first served with the Army Corps of Engineers in Kansas City and then in Washington, D.C. In 1965 she moved to the U.S. Navy R & D Laboratory in Annapolis, MD where her interest in computers began. Later, she went to the U. S. Naval Academy as a Computer Programer. In 1979, she transferred to Jacksonville, FL and completed her career at the Naval Aviation Depot at NAS Jacksonville. Nancy loved music and was accomplished on the piano. She received a Certificate from the Conservatory of Music in Kansas City, MO. In high school, she played cello, 1st chair, in their orchestra. Later, she was piano teacher for many years while living in Maryland. She served as Secretary for the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 278, Kent Island, MD and was a past President of the Kent Island PTA. She was a member of Toastmistress International and enjoyed public speaking. Her favorite past times were working cross-word puzzles and watching Jeopardy. She, also, enjoyed boating earlier in life. She is survived by her children and step-children, Craig Klein (Marybeth); Suzanne Suttles (George); Steven Klein (Jamie); Elaine Palazzi (Jeff); Jim Klein (Emmy); John Klein (Gail); Lynn Lewis; Allan Lewis, Jr. (Latrice); brother, Bryant Philgreen (Vicki); sister, Sharon Achim (Don) and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2009 in the Chapel at Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cemetery, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO. The funeral and interment will follow at 10:00 a.m. A Memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2009 at Heartland Health Care Center, 8495 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northeast Florida Community Hospice, 4114 Sunbeam Road, Suite 101, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
