Norma V. Mack, a longtime resident of White Plains, died peacefully on November 1, 2007 at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, NY. Norma was born in Brooklyn, NY to Jamaican immigrants, and reared in Manhattan and the Bronx. Educated in the NYC School System, she graduated from Morris High School in the Bronx with an Academic diploma, and later the Montifiore Hospital School of Nursing. She also received a Certification in Para-Legal Studies from Westchester Community College. Norma worked for many years as a Staff Nurse and Charge Nurse at Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital and Grasslands Hospital, Psychiatric Division. She later changed careers and retired from NYNEX as a Market Administrator for Large Business Markets. Residing in the White Plains area for 40 years, Norma was well known for her commitment to the community. She was a 21 year member of the White Plains Hospital Board of Directors, and Executive Board Member and Liaison to the Credentials Committee of the Medical Board; a life member of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs Inc; she was on the Pace University Presidential Advisory Board for the White Plains Law School Campus and the White Plains Housing Authority Board. She was one of the founding members of FRANORE, a Financial Assistance Program for black high school graduates continuing education for vocational careers, and a member of IBPOE of the Rosebud Temple #297 White Plains. Norma leaves to celebrate her life a grandson Blake Galwell; cousins Winnie, Warren and Leon Reid, Fiona Reid-Drahn, Lillie and Lloyd Johnson; godsons Christopher Carter and Dane Robinson, extended family, Verdell Hilliard, Hermon, Abife and Reginald Lockhart, Wendell, Maxine and Anthony Harris, Bonnie and Tamela Riley, Alana Davis, Barbara Capers; and a host of friends and colleagues. She was predeceased by her parents, and only son, Ivan Hubbard. In lieu of flowers, please, contributions in her memory to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 188 Orawaupum St., White Plains, NY 10606. Visiting hours Wednesday 7-9pm at Calvary Baptist Church, address above. Services Thursday 12 noon at Calvary.
