MYRTLE HARRIS SEPTEMBER 10, 1925 - JUNE 3, 2010 Sister Myrtle Harris, age 84, passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010. She was affectionately known as "Ms. Myrl," and was born on September 10, 1925 in Munson, Florida to the late Eugene and Leola Meeks-Harris. She was blessed with four loving children, two daughters and two sons. Sister Harris accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was an avid student of the bible and a dedicated member of Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where she faithfully served until her health began to decline. She was a Sunday School Superintendent, member of the Missionary Society, as well as other auxiliaries of her church. Because of the way she lived her life, it was evident that Sister Harris was a Christian. In her own quiet manner, she often performed many benevolent acts of kindness for many in need in her community. Sister Harris was a 1946 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola, FL and later attended Florida Normal (now known as Florida Memorial) in St. Augustine, FL. Following her educational endeavors, Sister Harris was employed by many prominent families in Milton, Florida. She subsequently worked for the Santa Rosa County School system where she retired after twenty-four years of diligent service. In Sister Harris' spare time, she enjoyed creating a variety of culinary dishes for her friends and family to enjoy. She was preceded in death by her son, Eugene Harris. She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Ervilene Sunday Weatherspoon, Milton, FL; Tina Y. Harris Augustave, Bagdad, FL; one son, Clifford L. Harris, Bagdad, FL. Sister Harris also leaves seven precious grandchildren, Jocelyn W. Blake (Phillip), Milton, FL, Janice L. Weatherspoon, Atlanta, GA, Kenna Jackson, Milton, FL, Detreal Jackson, Milton, FL, Timothy Augustave, Chicago, IL, Anthony Harris, Mobile, AL, Phaedra Harris, Pensacola, FL, and five loving great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Harris will be 2:00 PM, Friday, June 11, 2010 at Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Willie D. Travis, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Bagdad Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home directing. Family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel.
