TUSCALOOSA Myrtle Blanche Harris of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and formerly of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, died January 18th, 2006. Born in Akron, Alabama in Hale County on March 15, 1919, she lived in Florida, Okaloosa County, from 1958 until her move to Tuscaloosa in 2004. Ms. Harris was a graduate of Livingston State Teacher's College (University of West Alabama) in Livingston, Alabama. She was retired from the Okaloosa County school system as an elementary teacher, having taught three years at Edge Elementary and at Wright Elementary for 17 years. Ms. Harris taught school for 36 years in Alabama, Georgia and Florida. After retirement she worked with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Okaloosa County.Ms. Harris was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Noah G. Harris, three brothers and five sisters. Survived by 10 nieces and nephews, other relatives and many close friends, Myrt, as she was known by all, was blessed with a merriment for life, a youthful spirit, a generous nature, and will be missed by all who knew her.Funeral arrangements are being handled by Kirk Funeral Home of Greensboro, Alabama, with graveside services in the Harris Cemetery, Mt. Hebron Community on Friday, January 20th at 2 p.m.
