Mrs. Mamie Helen Brown Lee, age 81, passed away Friday, February 4, 2011, at Candler Hospital of Savannah. She was born in Bulloch County, but resided in Savannah for most of her life. She was a graduate of William James High School in Statesboro, Ga., and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Savannah State College. She was employed by Savannah-Chatham County Board of Education. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir. She was a founding member of the Mother Matilda Beasley Society, where she served as president. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse E. Lee Sr.; her parents, William and Julia Brown; her sisters, Alice Brown Lewis and Rachel Brown Robinson; her brothers, William M. Brown, Booker T. Brown, James Brown, Valentine Brown, Clarence Brown, Walter Brown; and a sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Brown. She is survived by her daughter, Y'vonne Lee James of Savannah, Ga.; a son, Jesse E. (Cynthia) Lee Jr. of Savannah, Ga.; one sister, Gussie Mae Shine of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; one brother, Robert Brown of Lockport, N.Y.; three sisters-in-law, Dora Brown of Palmetto, Fla., Dorothy Brown of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Margaret Brown Woodley of Lockport, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Martin James, Jessica Lee, Julia James; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The funeral service will be held Friday, February 11, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Savannah, Ga., with the Rev. John Lyons officiating. Interment will be in the Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, S.C. The family will receive friends at 305 Remington Place, Pooler, Ga. A Christian Wake Service will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2011, at 6 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home, 510 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah, Ga.
