STATESBORO, Ga. - Mrs. Lynda G. Smith, age 68, died on Saturday, March 28, 2009, in the Ogeechee Area Hospice Facility. The Louisville, Ky., native attended Hanover College in Indiana and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor's of Art degree in Political Science. She worked with the University Press until her marriage to Edward W.L. Smith, Ph.D., in 1965. They moved to Atlanta in 1969, where she taught for over 17 years at the Briar Vista Elementary School. She was an avid amateur photographer, an active member and officer of the Statesboro chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels and the Scandinavian–American Foundation of Georgia. Surviving is her husband of 43 years, Dr. Edward W.L. Smith of Statesboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandnes and Todd Boulanger of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a son, Edward (Eddie) Shannon Smith of Statesboro, Ga.; two grandchildren, Patrick and Luke Boulanger of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Linda Glore of Louisville, Ky.; a sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Terry Collard of New Holland, Ohio. The memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Georgia Southern University Botanical Gardens with the Rev. Steve Darby officiating.
