->Mother Susie Mae JohnsonWappinger Falls - Mother Susie M. Johnson, 100, an eighty-eight year resident of Dutchess County, entered into eternal rest and peace on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, New York, surrounded by her loving family.Born on March 10, 1914 in Nason (Orange County), Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Mrs. Dora Lee Willis Collins and Mr. Wilmore Pitcher, Sr. Mother Johnson accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at the age of eight at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Orange, Virginia, under the pastorate of her uncle, the late Rev. James Willis. Together, the family relocated to New York in 1926.On June 4, 1933 she was united in holy matrimony to Frank Johnson. Mr. Johnson preceded her in death on July 10, 1992.Upon relocating to New York, she became a member of the Central Baptist Church in Clinton Corners, New York; there she served under the pastorate(s) of both the late Reverend F.H. Wiggins and Reverend Richard Roundtree. Mother Johnson later became a member of The Historical Smith Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, under the pastorate of the late Reverend Dr. Belvie Jackson. A devoted member, she served under leadership of nine (9) pastors which include the churches present pastor, The Reverend Dr. H. Dwight Bolton. Throughout her years of membership which span over forty years, she served on the Senior Usher Board, Women's Home and Overseas Missionary Society, the Kitchen Committee, and the Stewardess Board - of which she served as President until she became physically unable.Mother John will be remembered for her sweet and loving nature, here beautiful smile, and her genuine love for God and Church. Her physical limitations did not deter her from being a faithful member and supporter. In addition, she will be remembered as being a part of the "Old Thursday Luncheon" Committee, where she was known for her famous Sweet Potato Pies. She will be missed by all who were blessed to have known her.Mother Johnson leaves to recall cherished memories three sons, Alexander M. Johnson, Donald W. Johnson, Sr., and Ronald M. Johnson, Sr. (Regina), all of Poughkeepsie; two daughters, Anna M. Johnson, of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Susie K. Johnson, of Wappingers Falls, New York; seventy-one grandchildren; forty-two great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a many friends.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Frank Johnson; a daughter, Helen June Johnson; brothers, James Edward Greene and Wilmore Pitcher; a sister, Cornelia Pitcher Johnson.Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 from 10:00am-11:00am at The Historical Smith Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church 124 Smith Street, Poughkeepsie, New York. The Homegoing Celebration will begin at 11:00am. The Reverend Dr. H. Dwight Bolton, Pastor, Officiating.
