Owen, Monica JoyApril 9, 1922 - Nov. 27, 2008Monica Joy Owen, 86, Sarasota, died Nov. 27, 2008.Born in Southampton, England, to Hettie and William Sanger, she was raised in Southsea and Portchester, and was a noted, competitive horse rider in the U.K. During World War II, she was active in M16 British Intelligence from 1939 to 1946, where she received many decorations. She immigrated to the United States in 1946 to join her husband. She worked as an accountant and professional model in Massachusetts while she raised her four children. She later moved to Washington, D.C., where she spent 23 years as a foreign service officer with the U.S. Government. She moved to Sarasota in 1991 when she retired, and has been very active in St. Margaret of Scotland Episcopal Church. In addition to her children, Steven Chamberlin, Susan Tift, and Peter Chamberlin of Massachusetts, and Glenn Robbins of New Hampshire; she leaves three grandchildren, Shannon Lamere, Will Chamberlin, and Whitney Cleary; and three great-grandchildren, Jordan, Samantha, and Joshua Lamere, all of Massachusetts. She has been cremated by National, and her ashes will be released to the sea off Sandwich, Mass., on Cape Cod, with a memorial by the Episcopal Church of East Falmouth. Local memorial services will be at 6 p.m. today at St. Margaret's Church.
