STATESBORO, Ga. -- Miss Clara Allene Smith, age 95, died Sunday, April 29th, 2012, under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice, at the residence of her niece in Newington, Georgia. A native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County, Miss Smith attended Pleasant Grove, Warnock School and graduated from Statesboro High School in 1933. She was a graduate of Georgia Teacher's College with a B.S. in Education. While attending college, she taught first and second grades at Warnock School and Nevils. Upon her graduation, she taught first grade at Mattie Lively Elementary School, retiring after 36 years of service, then teaching at Mrs. Joyner's Little School for seven years. Miss Smith was a member and former officer of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association and a member of the National Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Statesboro First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class for 40 years, now the Joy Girls, that merged with the Dorcas Sunday School Class and the Senior Adult Choir. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Hill Smith and Clara Mitchell Smith; and her sister, Virginia Smith Alford.Surviving are her niece and her husband, Vivian Pryor Crews and Paul of Newington; great-nieces and nephews, Bob and Toni Flatman of Newington, Ginger Ash of Charleston, S.C., Loyd and Hollie Pryor of Newington, Dustin Alford of Savannah, Kristi Alford of Atlanta and April Alford of Ohio; special cousins, Floyd Daniel and Esther Hulsey and Jack Hulsey, all of Nevils; a niece-in-law, Karen Alford of Atlanta; and several great-great-nieces and nephews, including Jennifer Ash of Charleston, S.C.Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.The funeral service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Dr. H. William Perry officiating. Interment will be in the Middleground Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.Pallbearers will be Dustin Alford, Floyd Daniel Hulsey, Frank Hulsey, Mike Smith, Bobby Miller and Blake Miller.Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Dorcas Sunday School Class and Jane Dekle.The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Statesboro First Baptist Church Nursing Ministry, 108 North Main Street, Statesboro, Ga. 30458; or Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O.
