Mildred M. Gorton Coy Retiree Age 91, of Thompson Street, Elmira, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2002 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Elmira, NY. She was born March 27, 1911 in Manchester, NY, the daughter of the late Felix and Mary (Natale) DeMott. Mildred was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Ellsworth E. Smith, on December 21, 1987. She is survived by her beloved son and daughter-in-law, Charles E. and Betty P. Smith Sr. of Pittsford, NY; grandchildren, Debra (George) Orosz of Fairport, NY; Charles E. (Janis) Smith Jr. of Victor, NY; Diana Floyd of Houston, TX; William (Sarah) Smith of Fairport, NY; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Orosz of Fairport, NY; Hunter Floyd of Houston, TX; Gareth Smith of Fairport, NY; sister, Theresa Chambers of Rochester, NY; sister-in-law, Tina DeMott of Elmira, NY; along with several nieces and nephews. Mildred was a dedicated communicant of St. Mary's Church and retired from Gorton Coy as sales associate after several years of faithful service. She had an intense quest for knowledge and enjoyed reading. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY on Monday, May 20, 2002 from 6 to 8 PM and on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. A Prayer Service will be at the Funeral Home on Tuesday at 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. Mary's Church 224 Franklin Street Elmira, NY. Deacon Robert Stowell will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery with Deacon Bob conducting the committal prayers. In lieu of flowers Memorial Donations in the name of Mildred M. Smith may be directed to St. Mary's Church memorial fund. A Candle of Memory may be lit in Mildred's name at www.olthof.com.
