Smith , MildredMildred Livengood Allison Smith (94) died on Wednesday, July 18th at The Watermark in Southbury, CT, where she had been a resident since 2004. Mildred Livengood was born September 30, 1917 in Warrensburg, Missouri. She graduated from Kansas State Teacher's College in Emporia, Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Education with a Library Certificate. Mildred married Hugh Vincent Allison on September 23, 1939. The couple moved to Fairfield and became active in the Golden Hill United Methodist Church in Bridgeport. Mildred received a 70 year membership certificate in 2009. She worked for the church as a Pastoral Visitor and edited the newsletter for the Connecticut District of the United Methodist Women (UMW). She was a member of the Board of Directors of the United Methodist Homes of Connecticut, and the Fanny Crosby Home. She was on the steering committee for establishing an Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers unit in Bridgeport. Mildred was also a leader in the P.E.O. sisterhood. Initiated into P.E.O. in 1955, she held all local chapter offices and all state offices, presiding at the 1982 State Convention as the 23rd State President of P.E.O. of Connecticut.Mildred and Hugh Allison had six children-four daughters, and two sons. When Hugh died from complications of Parkinson's disease in August 1990, they had twelve grandchildren. In June 1993, Mildred married Wardley Blake Smith, a friend for over 50 years. He died in February 2007.Mildred is survived by her children: Gladys Allison Stokes of Seneca Falls, NY; Dorothy Allison Halsey of Natick, MA; Christine Allison (and Bob Knight) of Charlottesville, VA; Vivian Allison of Cooperstown, NY; Harold Allison (and Xiao Xiang Huang) of Newtown, CT; and Stanley Allison (and Patty Hite) of Seattle, WA. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 11 great-children; 3 step-daughters; 10 step-grandchildren, and 16 step-great-grandchildren.A memorial service for Mildred Allison Smith will be held at Golden Hill United Methodist Church in Bridgeport, Connecticut on Sunday, August 19th at 12 noon. A luncheon reception will follow.The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship Fund, 3700 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50312.
