Mildred Kirkpatrick Jordan, age 92, of Frederick, Md., died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at Buckingham's Choice Care Facility in Maryland. Born June 1, 1909, in Goldville, S.C., she was the daughter of the late J. Austin and Martha B. Kirkpatrick. She had resided in South Carolina until two years age when she moved to Buckingham's Choice to be close to family. Mrs. Jordan graduated from Winthrop College in 1933 with a degree in Home Economics. She was employed by the South Carolina Public School System as a teacher in Berea and Starr, S.C. After marriage, she worked for the South Carolina Department of Social Services and retired from that service in 1973. She married William Clyde Jordan of Iva, S.C. in 1936, who preceded her in death in 1981. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Gray of Iva, S.C., and Mozell Banister of Indians Rocks Beach, Florida. She is survived by a son, Kirk P. Jordan and his wife, Barbara M. Jordan, of Frederick, Md.; a grandson, Kyle K. Jordan and his wife, Barbara P. Jordan, also of Frederick, Md.; a granddaughter, Kelly J. Meck and her husband Daniel Meck of Baltimore; and three great-grandchildren, Emma Meck, Andrew Meck and Kate Jordan. While in South Carolina, she was active in the Anderson First Baptist Church Sunday School Program. She was also active in St. Mark United Methodist Church of Greenville, where she served on various church committees. Community activities included working in the Meals on Wheels Program, the Greenville Public School library system at Duncan Chapel Elementary School, and the Senior Action Committee. Many friends and relatives in the Greenville-Anderson area where she spent most of her adult life, will remember Mrs. Jordan. Included among her friends are Giles and Mary MacDavid, Harold and Nancy Benjamin, and Margaret Bridgeman. These friends and friends of the St. Mark's Sammeth-Broadnax Sunday School class will serve as honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers will be a combination of family members and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at 3 p.m. at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel, 2211 North Main St., in Anderson, South Carolina, with the Rev. Barry Cannon and the Rev. Daniel Meck officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the service to immediately follow in the chapel at 3 p.m. Interment will follow the service in the Iva City Cemetery. After the interment, family and friends are invited to gather at the home of Gary Jordan in Iva, S.C. Directions will be provided at the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 306 N. Franklin Road, Greenville, SC 29609.
