-->Mildred Hamrick Wood CHESNEE, SC-- Mildred Hamrick Wood, 97, of 802 Hwy. 11 East, Chesnee died Saturday January 5, 2008 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born September 25, 1910, in Henrietta, NC, she was one of three children of the late Landrum and Florrie Matheney Hamrick. She was the widow of Miles Othello Wood. Mrs. Wood was an active and long-time member of Chesnee First Baptist Church where she had formerly served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and Building Committee member. She was currently a member of the Challengers Sunday school class and VSP Club. She also previously volunteered her services to Mobile Meals. She was a 1931 graduate of Gardner Webb College. Mr. and Mrs. Wood owned and operated Chesnee Gin Company and also operated a farm. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by a son, Jerry Miles Wood, by a brother, James Hamrick and a sister, Polly Cantrell. Mrs. Wood is survived by granddaughters, Beth Cooley and husband, Gary Cooley, Jr. of Chesnee and Cindy Walia and husband, Raj Walia of Moore; two great-granddaughters, Rachel Cooley and Ava Walia. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2008 at Chesnee First Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Gary Grogan. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Springhill Memorial Gardens.
