Mildred Corrine Kruck Davis, beloved wife of Joseph Charles Davis, died on Nov. 14, 2009, at Glenmoor Retirement Community at St. Augustine, Fla. She was born in Canton, Ohio, on Feb. 11, 1917, to the late Laura Mary (Hitz) Kruck and Edward Frank Kruck. She was preceded in death by her sister, Gertrude Margaret Kruck, a sister of the Order of Notre Dame; her sister-in-law, Marie Agatha Davis; and her daughter-in-law, Barbara Ann (Williams) Davis, all of whom had a very special place in her heart. Growing up in Canton, Ohio, Millie enjoyed a large, extended family of German and Swiss relatives. After attending St. Peter"s Grade School and Mt. Marie High School, she enrolled at Canton Actual Business College, where she met her future husband, Joe, who survives. She and Joe were married at St. Peter"s Catholic Church on Sept. 21, 1940. Prior to their marriage, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Catholic Community League. She and Joe lived in Pittsburgh and Ashland, Ky. Joe was employed by the Ashland Oil and Refining Co., which was based in Ashland. They ultimately retired in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.Millie was a devoted wife and mother. She and her husband, Joe, were happily married 69 years. With wit, wisdom, perseverance and, most of all, love, she raised the following five children, who survive: Susan Marie Davis Gooch, Joseph Edward Davis, Thomas Francis Davis (Mary Beth Hood), Sally Laura Davis and Amy Margaret Davis Nesfeder (Michael Robert).Additional survivors who will cherish her memory and carry on her legacy are her grandchildren, Katrin Anne Gooch Gerig (J. Tyler), Lara Anne Gooch Mann (Nikolas Philip), Joel Anthony Gooch (Alison Sarah Glassman), Mark James Holmes (Tracey Ann Schmidt), Douglas James Holmes, Todd James Holmes (Mariko Inoue), Jennifer Marie Davis Geldhof (Eric James), Christopher Charles Davis, Amy Elizabeth Davis, Bryan Thomas Davis, Katherine Marie Davis, Emily Marie Antworth, Joseph Vinton Antworth, Daniel Richard Nesfeder, Mary Paige Nesfeder and Brett Michael Nesfeder.Grace Noelle Gerig, Davis Michael Gerig, Samuel Louis Gerig, Elisabeth Davis Mann, Zoe Anton Mann, Hope Marie Mann, Carter Jonah Gooch, Taylor Charles Holmes, Allie Marie Holmes and Parker Joseph Geldhof are Millie"s beloved great-grandchildren.Millie"s focus in life was her church, family and friends. Additionally, she enjoyed bridge, golf, travel, gardening and flower arranging. Along with Joe, she hosted the family"s 38th annual reunion at Glenmoor in June of 2009. Although she was very ill, she was able to attend the dinner, where three new Davis baby boys, her great-grandsons, were officially introduced to the family. She continually exclaimed, "Look at those little dolls!"A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel in St. Augustine at 10 a.m. on Nov. 28, 2009. A private committal service will take place at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Ponte Vedra Beach at a later time. Millie"s family would like to thank the wonderful staff and residents of Glenmoor retirement community for their love and kindness, especially during her recent illness. Craig Funeral Home Crematory Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.
