WATSON, Michael "Mike" Joseph June 5, 1953 - April 5, 2010 On Monday, April 5, 2010 Michael Watson passed away suddenly at the age of 56. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 29 years, Shannon; two sons, Tom and Andrew (Ashley); grandson, Avery, all of Edmonton; brother, Peter (Elaine); sisters, Liz (Chips) Reid and Shelagh (John) Slater; sisters-in-law, Lisa and Sheryl; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Betty Watson; and his brothers, John, Paul and Mark. Graduating as a Forest Technologist from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Mike worked for a period of time for MacMillan-Bloedel in the Queen Charlotte Islands. Returning to NAIT, he worked for 25 years as the Education Lab Technician and Instructor. He was well-liked and highly regarded by many of his peers and students. A natural teacher, Mike was charming and will always be remembered for his extraordinary kindness, pleasant smile and willingness to assist. He loved the outdoors; he delighted in introducing his students and family to the joys of just tramping around the bush. A bush day would usually end with a big bonfire to sit around and tell stories. Michael was very proud of his sons and all their accomplishments. Though he did not play soccer, he delighted in helping coach them when they were children and attended their games even as adults. We will all miss watching the World Cup without him this year. Cremation has occurred and a Memorial Service will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 12, 2010 at St. Andrew's Centre in the auditorium, 12720 - 111 Avenue, Edmonton. Reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please make a donation to the Michael Watson Memorial Fund, Attn: NAIT Advancement Office, 11762 - 106 Street, Edmonton, AB, T5G 3H1, made payable to NAIT/Forest/Kidney Lake Camp.
