TODD, Michael The Todd family is saddened to announce the unexpected death of Michael Todd. He was surrounded by his family when he died of a brain tumor on November 7, 2010. Mike is survived by Virginia, his wife of 51 years; and his children Hope (Doug), Michael Jr., Blair (Nancy), Aaron and Electra. Mike was the jolly grandfather to Chelsea, Olivia and Emma Todd; Isabella and Gresham Halladay; and Emilie and Nicholas Obadia-Todd. Mike will be missed by his siblings Richard (Heather), Sarah (Jim) and Tim (Judy) and his nieces and nephews. Mike was born in Shoeburyness, England on November 18, 1937. He lived some of his childhood in Rhodesia and developed a passion for flying while hitching rides over Victoria Falls. From age 15 to 21, Mike sailed with the British Merchant Navy. He and Virginia immigrated to Canada in 1959 so that Mike could pursue his dream of flying. Seven years and 5 children later Mike was flying for Air Canada. Mike was part of the Air Canada family for 31 years. During this time he was the Council No. 1 Safety Chairman for CALPA; served as the Air Canada MEC Safety Chairman; and was also the Chairman of CALPA's Special Technical Committee of Operations. He was instrumental in improving aviation safety standards in Canada. He was an IFR instructor and a mentor to many an aviator. After retiring from Air Canada in 1997, Mike flew for Western Express and then for 5 years with Sky Service as a training captain. Mike will be remembered for his self-deprecating humor, love of the sun, wine gums, erudition and generosity. Mike will be missed by his family, by his wonderful friends and by his extended family in England. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 15, 2010 at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Church, 3900 Arthur Drive, Ladner, BC.
