Avis de décès de Michael-Monroe Carter

CARTER Michael Monroe Carter, “Mike”, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 19th, 2008 due to medical complications. He was born in Jacksonville, FL, on September 25, 1944, to Marguerite and the late Jacob “Archie” Carter. Mike was a 1962 graduate of Dupont High School in Jacksonville, FL. He went on to earn a Master's Degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Georgia in 1967. After attending Officer Candidate School, Mike served as a lieutenant in the US Navy from 1967-1971. Mike was a talented businessman, and over the years was able to enjoy various careers in the areas of business and finance. He most enjoyed his 10 years with GT Leasing. Mike loved the outdoors and the National Parks System, almost as much as he loved his family. He held a Golden Age Passport with the National Parks Service so he could enjoy them all. Dear to his heart was his love of hiking in the Carolina Mountains with his son Chris. His passion for nature was great, and he shared this love with those closest to him, most of all his grandchildren. Mike had never met a stranger, and he had many friends who will miss him. He touched many lives and would do anything for anyone. His immense heart had room for it all. Left behind to cherish his memory, in addition to his mother Marguerite, are: his sister, Linda Carter Tipton (Terry); son, Christopher Michael Carter; daughter, Meredith Carter Conley; the “apple of his eye” beloved grandson Jacob Conley, age 11, named for Mike's father; beloved and adored granddaughter, Claire Elizabeth Conley, age 4, and his very special, long-time friend, Connie Linton. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 23rd at 2:00 p.m., at the Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, FL, 32207. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a contribution in Mike's honor, be made to the National Parks Foundation, 1201 Eye St., NW, Suite 550B, Washington, DC 20005, or to the charity of your choice.
