Michael John Gunther, 93, a Union resident for 50 years, passed on Dec. 29, 2011. Funeral from the McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave., Union, is on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 8:30 a.m. with a Mass being offered at Holy Spirit Church, Union, at 9:30 a.m. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery will follow. Family and friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mr. Gunther was born in Newark, N.J., and lived in Union before moving to Wisconsin 1-1/2 years ago. A World War II veteran, he was a B-17 mechanic and was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant. Michael was employed as a machinist for Ballantine Brewery, Newark, until they closed and then for L'Oreal in Clark, N.J., until he retired. After retirement, he helped care for his younger grandchildren, took care of his wife and was the consummate handyman. He was an avid Yankees and Giants fan and was a catcher in a semi-professinal baseball league. He was the beloved husband of 56 years to the late Anna (nee Primusz); dear father of June Perkins and her husband, Jim, of Wisconsin; Michael Gunther and his wife, Joan, of New Jersey, and Anne Marie Lohn and her husband, Rick, of Connecticut; cherished grandfather of Heather and husband Dave, Julie and husband Terry, Andy and wife Katherine, Claudia and Evan; great-grandfather of Nicholas, Miles, Aidan, Ben and Callum; brother of Katherine and the late John and Elizabeth.
