HARDIN, MICHAEL GHEENS, 64, a native of Louisville, passed away Friday, November 24, 2006 at home in Moore, ID. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 1973. He attended Officer Candidate School in 1967 and retired as a full Lieutenant. While on active duty, he attended Purdue University and received his degree in electrical engineering. Michael worked for Naval Reactors for 46 years, retiring in June 2006. He served under Admiral Rickover in the development of the first nuclear powered submarines. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Gheens Hardin Jr.; his grandson, Asher Hardin; his parents, Bettye and Dan Hardin; two brothers, Danny and David Hardin; and sister, Linda Hardin Davenport. Michael is survived by his wife, Simone Hardin; five children, Kristin Shaw Hardin, Sean Hardin, Jennifer Hardin, Susan McGinnis and Anthony Hardin; ten grandchildren; two brothers, Bruce M. and John (Matt) Hardin; and a sister, Susan F. Smith. Memorial services will be held at Owen funeral home- Jeffersontown, 9318 Taylorsville Rd., at 2 p.m. on Friday. Burial will take place at Lost Rivers Cemetery in Moore, ID. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. on Friday until time of service.
