Michael F. Powell of Vestal Michael F. Powell, 60, after a courageous battle with kidney cancer, went to be with the Lord and his mother early Sunday morning, September 5, 2010. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by family members and loved ones. Mike's constant smile and positive attitude will be truly missed. He was and will continue to be an inspiration to his entire family and everyone who knew him. He is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 34 years and his daughter, Kelly Fishman, son-in-law, Brandon Fishman, and their beautiful newborn grandson Dylan Michael Fishman, San Diego; daughters, Kimberly Powell, Liverpool, Kelsey Powell, San Diego. He is predeceased by his loving and caring mother, Betty Powell. He is also survived by his father, William Powell, Endwell; his in-laws, Richard and Vici Black, Vestal; his siblings and spouses, Kevin and Janet Powell, Norcross, GA, Bill and Ann Powell, Endwell, Vince and Barb Powell, Endicott, Craig and Theresa Powell, Cromwell, CT and Maureen and Jeff Zimmer, Middletown, CT; nine beautiful nieces and nephews, Jason and Jessica Powell, Atlanta, GA, Paige and Brooke Powell, Endwell, Nathaniel Powell, Endicott, David and Vanessa Powell, Cromwell, CT and Jerrod and Valerie Zimmer, Middletown, CT. Mike was a graduate of Seton High School in Endicott, and Binghamton University's School of Management. He worked at IBM Corporation for over 30 years. He was also an active board member and past President of the local chapter of the Purchasing Managers Association. Mike was always active and cared deeply for his own health and fitness. He loved running, biking, and tennis. Mike ran the New York City Marathon twice in addition to many local races. He was an avid fan of the Giants, Yankees, and Rangers. He was also passionate about music and loved sharing his favorite Rock N Roll CD's with friends and family. The family would like to express their thanks to Father Cerwonka and Jeannie Garuto for all their special healing masses at St. Mary's; and to Dr. Fallon and Dr. Kloss of Lourdes Hospital for their heartfelt support. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday 9:30 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Vestal at 10 am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Tuesday from 4-7 pm.
