Merle Louise Cox CHESNEE, SC-- Merle Louise Cox, 56, beloved wife of Steven Wayne Cox, passed away at her home on Saturday, December 12, 2009, following a courageous battle with breast cancer. Mrs. Cox was born on September 2, 1953 in Spartanburg and was a daughter of the late LeRoy Coggins. She was a graduate of Dorman High School and Spartanburg Technical College. Mrs. Cox enjoyed music, mountain biking, and was a gifted artist. She cherished her relationships with her many wonderful friends and was a devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Cox was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. In addition to her husband of 23 years, Mrs. Cox is survived by two daughters, Leigh-Tatum Lindsay Gimpel and her husband Gregory Stuart Gimpel of Greenville and Margaret "Maggie" Merle Cox; her son, Joshua "Josh" Wayne Cox of Spartanburg; a brother, Joseph A. Coggins; and two sisters, Shirley M. McCorvy and B. Gayle Hopson. She was predeceased by three brothers, Roy M., Troy F., and Anthony W. Coggins. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 5:00 PM at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church conducted by the Rev. Robert L. Brown and the Rev. Deacon Leslie F. Horvath. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the family life center.
