Melton Lee Carter, age 51, of Jacksonville, Florida died Saturday evening at his residence after a short illness. He was son of the Late Oscar Lee Carter and native of Valdosta, Georgia; but had lived in Jacksonville for many years. Melton was preceded in death by one sister, Anita Anderson. Survivors include his mother, Winnie Lynette Carter of Jacksonville. One sister, Nancy Carter of Jacksonville. Three brothers, Joseph Carter of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Leland Carter and Mike Carter both of Jacksonville. Also, many nieces and nephews survive. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 o'clock from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Joseph Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Ten Mile Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: Gary Weaver, Mike, David, Jason, Todd and Linton Carter. All those in attendance will be considered as honorary escort. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home between the hours of 6 and 9PM Wednesday. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
