Melanie Ann Williams RHINEBECK - Melanie Ann Williams, 51, died peacefully at her home in Rhinebeck on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010 surrounded by her loving family. Melanie was born on Feb. 11, 1959 in Poughkeepsie to William and Jean Amato Tucker. She graduated from St. Mary's Poughkeepsie and three years later from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in 1976. In 1978, after obtaining an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts from Dutchess Community College, she continued her education with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from SUNY Oneonta in 1981, followed with a Masters of Science in Elementary Education with a Math concentration from SUNY New Paltz. Employed by IBM for 28 years, Melanie was the recipient of multiple honors and awards, achieving the position of Operations Manager and Certified Senior Project Manager for Global Services. She managed the development of software e-business applications, consolid- ated software operations across all USA IBM; and service deliveries with responsibilities spanning multi-million dollar operations world-wide. In 2000, Melanie received a Master's Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University. On June 16, 1990 in Rhinebeck, New York Melanie married Patrick M. Williams at the Church of the Good Shepherd and walked in procession to a joyous reception at the Beekman Arms attended by family and friends. This summer, Melanie and Patrick were joined by family members to celebrate their 20th Wedding Anniversary. Loving the great outdoors, she enjoyed a lifelong love of water sports, including lifeguarding at IBM Country Club in Poughkeepsie during her college days, to being a member of a synchronized swimming team at SUNY Oneonta, to whitewater rafting, to a certified scuba diver, and to teaching local seniors at the YMCA, Poughkeepsie. Melanie was a member of the Rhinebeck Rotary Club until 2008. A central focus of Melanie's community activities were seen in efforts of improving and expanding Northern Dutchess Hospital (NDH) and its affiliated organizations. She was a 12 year member of the NDH Auxiliary, serving as a board member then Club President from 2001-2005, in addition to being a six year member of the NDH Mothers Club. She actively participated in many community service events, impressing many with her culinary talents of baking; but most importantly, her leadership and dedication to her work with these groups. The results were significant fundraising for NDH particularly in the areas of women's and children services. Melanie continued her education throughout her life. After retiring from IBM in 2009, she enrolled fulltime at Dutchess Community College to pursue her love of Creative Writing and Art. Melanie had a wide spectrum of interests that included being an avid gardener, a talented artist in ceramics, a talented musician, accomplished poet, and most recently, Melanie was writing a book about her six year journey with life and cancer. We will all remember Melanie for her great sense of humor and one who lived life to the fullest. From her trip to a mediation seminar in Arizona to walk on hot coals, to her zest for all that life had to offer. Her homeo-pathic lifestyle focused on her lifelong interest of health, nutrition and well being. Always striving to teach others, she led by example. Certified in Kripalu Yoga, and Massage Therapy, Melanie taught yoga classes in Adult Education at Dutchess Community College and Rhinebeck Middle School. She coupled her holistic outlook with a spirituality that affected those around her. Melanie's laughter, keen wit, and sense of humor were a joy to all that met her. She was an inspiration that encouraged others by her positive side of life. Shining examples of someone who never gave up the fight and was always up and optimistic, Melanie will be deeply missed by her husband, family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband, Patrick of Rhinebeck, her parents William and Jean, Poughkeepsie, her sister, Susan of Westchester, her brother Bill, sister-in-law, Jaia, nephew, Liam and niece, Fiona from China. Also her father-in-law, Richard, Somers and brothers-in-law, Paul from Somers, Thomas, Poughkeepsie, sisters-in-law Christine, Ashville, N.C. and Inga, Punta Gorda, Fla., nieces, Wynter & Kimberley, and nephews, Gavin and Matthew.
