McKENZIE Nichole Elaine Williams McKenzie, the daughter of the late Joseph Gardner Williams, Sr. and Ms. Joyce Oliver Williams, of Jacksonville, Florida, was born February 11, 1970, in Palatka, Florida. She made her transition to God on Thursday evening, November 11, 2006. She was the maternal granddaughter of Willie Oliver of Putnam Hall and the late Rosa Lee Williams of Hastings and the paternal granddaughter of the late Reverend Handy G. Williams and Nellie B. Gardner Williams, of East Palatka, Florida. Nichole, or “Nikki” as she was called by many, graduated from Palatka High School, Class of 1988, as an honor student, where she was President of the Student Government and a Varsity Cheerleader. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology Education from Bethune Cookman College in 1995 and later in 2002 earned her Master of Science degree in Education with a specialization in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. From 1995 until 2003, Nichole worked in Duval and Indian River Counties as a 6th - 8th grade Math and Science Teacher where in the 2001-2002 school year, Nichole was named Disney's Teacher of the Year at Twin Lakes Academy Middle School. Prior to her homegoing, Nichole was an Assistant Principal at Edward White High School in Jacksonville, Florida, and served on the Quality Assurance Review team for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Nichole was a devoted member of Mother Midway A.M.E. Church in Jacksonville, Florida, where she served as the Director of Camp Midway Summer Program for the past three years. Nichole was the loving mother of a nine year old energetic, athletic son, Glaston Williams Mckenzie. In addition to her son, Nichole is mourned by young Glaston's proud father, Glaston McKenzie; her devoted mother, Joyce Oliver Williams of Jacksonville, Florida; brothers, Joseph Gardner Williams, Jr., and his wife, Diana of Palatka, Florida, Handy Garfield Williams, III, and his wife Tina of Atlanta, Georgia, Clifford Williams and his wife Michelle of Meridian, Louisiana, and Eric Williams of Palatka, Florida; her aunts: Elaine Hilliard and her husband, Clifford of Jacksonville, Florida, Saundra Mitchell and her husband, Anthony of Key Stone, Florida, Sharon and her husband, Reverend Michael McKay of Palatka, Florida, Zenate Dennis and her husband, Cecil of Gainesville, Florida, Reverend Geraldine Williams McClellan and her husband, Richard of Gainesville, Florida, Nellie Williams Bryant of Miami, Florida, Cynthia Williams Curry, and her husband Garland of Miami, Florida, Gloria Williams Willis of Atlanta, Georgia and Kappitola E. Williams of Atlanta, Georgia; her uncles, Colonel Thomas W. Williams of Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Willie Oliver of Palatka, Florida, Minister Albert Oliver and his wife, Phyllis of Palatka, Florida, Stevie Oliver and his wife, Tanya of Eustis, Florida, Zenas Oliver of Putnam Hall, and Tony Hall and his wife, Denorris of Federal Point, Florida. Nichole is also survived by her grandparents, Reverend Willie Oliver and his wife, Elizabeth, of Putnam Hall; great aunts and uncles, Ella Grace Whitfield of Jacksonville, Florida, Della Mae Cobbs of Hastings, Florida, Harriette Freeman of Palatka, Florida, Gwendolyn Butts and her husband, Johnnie, of San Mateo, Florida, Emanuel Oliver and his wife, Pauline, of St. Augustine, Florida, Alphonso Oliver and his wife, Sarah Oliver of Fairfax, South Carolina, and Leona Oliver of Atlanta, Georgia; special friends, Patrick Adams, Karen Williams, Faye Campbell, Shawn Smith, and Godson, Dennis Williams; her Godmothers, Margaret Howell and Eartha Grisette; her cousins, Deidra Hilliard of Tallahassee, Florida, Yolanda Williams Rabun, and her husband Dereck of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Kymberlee Williams Curry of Miami, Florida, and one niece, two nephews and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends. Anyone who knew Nichole McKenzie understood the vitality of her intellect, her delight in learning, and her eternal goodwill and optimism. She will be missed. Homegoing Celebration will be held November 18, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 6910 New Kings Road, Rev. Marvin C. Zanders II, Pastor.
